Topic : Wave modelling in coastal subarctic zones

Coastal erosion and nearshore sediment dynamics depend mainly upon waves, but also current and sea ice action in winter. This project study propagation and transformation of wave in a partially ice covered sea.

The objectives are (1) to implement a numerical wave model, which take also into account sea ice presence, for two region of the Hudson Bay and the Hudson Strait ; (2) to evaluate with this model the impact of different extreme storms, the decrease of the period of sea ice cover, and sea level variations on the waves hitting different coast sectors and especially the marine infrastructures.

Financial Support

A scholarship of $15,000 per year will be provided for two years. A tuition exemption program is also available to cover the extra tuition fees of international students.
