The Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski is devoted to the discovery and advancement of basic and applied knowledge of coastal environments so that we acquire the means to assess the impact of human activity on our resources and develop scientific tools and essential techniques to properly manage our coastal heritage. This mission of sustainable development is led through Master’s and PhD oceanography programs and initiatives to share knowledge with society. It is the hope of ISMER researchers that their findings will be used to improve resource management and give decision makers the tools to protect the diversity and abundance of marine species. To help in this regard, ISMER also has a range of high tech equipment; an aquaculture laboratory with a supply of fresh seawater; and Coriolis II, a 50 m long, state-of-the-art research vessel operated by REFORMAR.
