L’objectif à long terme de mes travaux est de développer un modèle conceptuel des interactions et des processus qui déterminent la présence des contaminants organiques hydrophobes et leurs interactions avec des substances humiques (SH) et les organismes. Nous utilisons le système du Saint-Laurent comme milieu modèle, car on y rencontre un vaste éventail de conditions caractéristiques de milieux tempérés et de hautes latitudes où la persistance des contaminants risque d’être plus grande.

Pour les étudiants chimistes admis dans notre équipe, nous privilégions à la fois le développement d’habilités en analyse chimique et à la fois l’acquisition de compétences en biogéochimie de la matière organique naturelle et de la matière organique anthropique. De plus, tous le personnel du laboratoire participe activement à des campagnes d’échantillonnage en milieux terrestres ou marins. Au cours de mes travaux nous cherchons à : 

• développer de nouvelles technologies et méthodes d’analyses instrumentales ; 
• quantifier la présence de contaminants organiques hydrophobes ; 
• quantifier les interactions entre les contaminants organiques et les sols, les sédiments, la matière organique naturelle et les organismes ; 
• accroître notre compréhension des processus qui déterminent la présence, la dégradation et la persistance des contaminants organiques hydrophobes 
• trouver de nouvelles substances d’intérêts biomédical et écologique.
